Himag0712.jpgi, nice to meet you, I’m Steph. I’m a mom, a wife, a spinner, knitter, weaver, sometimes dyer. Basically, I play with string.

It started simple enough – my mom taught me how to knit when I was about 9 years old. The only thing I remember is wanting to knit a scarf for my baby cousin. When I was in university I took up knitting again, managing a few hats and a really amazing cabled scarf. I even managed to teach a few friends how to knit. It was something I did now and then, but more often than not my needles were bare.

A few years later, when pregnant with my first, I decided I was going to be a knitter. I’m not sure where the motivation came from, but it was there. A couple years later (while pregnant with my son, maybe it was the hormones?) came the need to spin. Along the way, I was given a loom. I’m not really sure how it happened, but I wasn’t going to argue.

Almost all of what I know I’ve learned from the internet – youtube videos for spinning, an amazing Craftsy class to learn how to weave, articles and videos on knitting techniques etc. – but I’ve also had amazing hands on help from local fiber artists who took me under their wing and gifted me their friendship. I would not have learned nearly as much as I have without their experience and help.

Currently, I have a little home studio where I work. I spend most of my time spinning and weaving, and manage to sell a lot of my work at local sales and through word of mouth. I also teach knitting classes and have taught a few people to spin as well. This blog is a space for me to share projects, experiences and techniques, write reviews and share my thoughts. Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoy!
